'How To Extract Sunlight From Cucumbers' is the debut album of the Belgian post industrial music formation MekanOrganiK, featuring three members of the well-known industrial percussion band MILITIA: Frank Gorissen, Sandra Janssen and Frank Van Hoof. They play rythmic music using a combination of conventional instruments (percussion, guitar, effects, sequencer, wind instruments...) mixed with tools, machines and 'organic materials' such as wood, water, sand, stones, bones and skulls, glass and even cucumbers.
The music of the album is based on the adventures of Lemuel Gulliver, the main character in Jonathan Swift's book 'Gulliver's Travels', which is a great and sophisticated satire of human nature based on Swift's experience of his times. 'Gulliver's Travels' is an anatomy of human nature and society and so is the music of MekanOrganiK.
